Case Studies
Changqing Oilfield has established a Tree Seedling Conservation Base, completed the age estimation, labeling and archiving of over 280 Rhamnus erythroxylum trees, put in place 6 sets of wildlife monitoring facilities, as well as built 100 bird nests. We support capacity building and improve local livelihoods. We invested to improve the living environment for the First Nation around the McKay River and the Dover Oil Sand Project. For example, the company supported the development of potential labor markets and provided skill training for the First Nation. In addition, we care about local educational undertakings and the company cooperated with the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary, and provided financial support to subsidize five long-term R&D projects.
Following the guidelines and policies, we actively fulfilled our social responsibilities and supported the local development. The company included community development into annual work plans and budget plans and submitted to local government for approval. CNPC strictly abides by the Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Act, and strictly controls the discharge and treatment of groundwater in coal-bed methane exploitation. At the same time, a groundwater monitoring network has been established to regularly measure and assess changes in groundwater levels and quality, compile groundwater impact reports, and proactively disclose the status of groundwater resources to landowners, governments, environmental organizations and other stakeholders.
